Coach Chuck McElroy brings a wealth of experience to the program as a former Major League Baseball pitcher with more than a decade of professional playing experience. Having competed at the highest level of the game, he now dedicates his time to helping develop and mentor the next generation of baseball players.
Coach McElroy attended Lincoln High School in Port Arthur, Texas, where he quickly established himself as one of the top pitchers in the area. In 1986, his senior year, he set the school record for 238 strikeouts, showcasing the talent that would soon propel him into professional baseball.
Following his standout high school career, Coach McElroy was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies directly out of high school. He progressed quickly through the organization and made his Major League debut in 1989.
Over the course of his professional career, Coach McElroy pitched for several Major League organizations including the Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Anaheim Angels, Chicago White Sox, Colorado Rockies, New York Mets, Baltimore Orioles, and San Diego Padres. Known primarily as a reliable relief pitcher, he built a strong reputation for consistency and competitiveness on the mound.
Coach McElroy retired from professional baseball in 2001, finishing his career with a 3.90 ERA and 604 strikeouts, with the majority of his appearances coming out of the bullpen.
Today, Coach McElroy uses his professional experience and deep knowledge of the game to help young athletes develop the skills, discipline, and mindset needed to succeed at the next level.
